The American Legion Legacy Restoration Project

The American Legion Legacy Restoration Project

The Legion Legacy Project fundraising efforts began in 2012 as the initial Forward March project. The impetus for renovating the historic C.F.Hamblen House and headquarters of American Legion Post #37 was St. Augustine’s 450th Commemoration in 2015. Funds were raised by sponsoring three St. Augustine military balls, obtaining the Florida Historic Preservation Grant and many private donations.

The American Legion is the nation’s largest wartime veterans’ service organization, committed to mentoring youth, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continuing devotion to our fellow service members and veterans.

The Hamblen property (Post 37) is an architecturally significant structure located in the most prominent section of the historic heart of St. Augustine on 1 Anderson Circle.

The Legion headquarters is across the street from the Bridge Of Lions. Forward March, Inc. raised funds to complete the renovations of the American Legion property in order to upgrade the usefulness and appearance of the current structure.

Forward March, Inc. envisions the renovated Legion to be a self-sustaining facility for social engagement, fine dining, a welcome center for active duty military, and a prime location for celebrating special community events. Please view the slideshow below to see our vision for the historic Hamblen property and American Legion Post 37.

The site will serve as headquarters for St. Augustine’s 450th Military Commemoration Committee programs and events. It will also feature a museum depicting 450 years of St. Augustine’s military history.

Far more than just a building, a restored American Legion Post 37 will once again be a proud symbol of America’s military, and a centerpiece of patriotism and honor in America’s Oldest City. Help us finish this project by donating today! Donate
